Terms of Use
The rules for using this website and giving through it. Short, and written so you can actually read them.
Last updated: 5 August 2026
The short version: use the site sensibly, donations are voluntary gifts rather than purchases, the words and images here belong to us or the people in them, and we'll do our best to keep everything accurate and working. If something goes wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
Using this site
By using somomaber.org you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site. Somomaber Africa Foundation operates this website and can be reached at info@somomaber.org.
You may read, share and link to anything on this site freely. What you may not do:
- Interfere with the site — attempt to break it, gain unauthorized access, or disrupt it for other people
- Scrape it at scale or use automated tools that place unreasonable load on our hosting
- Misrepresent us — impersonate the foundation, claim endorsement we haven't given, or solicit donations in our name without written permission
- Use our material commercially without asking us first
Donations
Donations made through this site are voluntary gifts, not purchases. You don't receive goods or services in exchange, and nothing on this site is an offer to sell anything.
How your gift is used
We publish what each amount typically funds, and we mean it. But because our programs depend on each other, and because circumstances in a school can change between your gift arriving and it being spent, we allocate donations at our discretion to where they're most needed across our programs. If you want your gift restricted to one specific program, email us before giving and we'll confirm whether we can honor that.
Payment processing
Donations are processed by Donorbox and their payment partners, whose terms and privacy policy govern the payment itself. We never see or store your card details.
Refunds
If you gave by mistake, gave the wrong amount, or meant to give once and set up a recurring gift, email us within 30 days and we'll refund you. No explanation required and no attempt to talk you out of it. Beyond 30 days we'll still consider it, but funds may already be committed.
You can cancel a recurring donation at any time by emailing info@somomaber.org or through the link in your donation receipt. Cancellation stops future payments; it doesn't refund past ones unless you ask.
Tax
Whether your donation is tax deductible depends on where you're giving from and our registration status in that jurisdiction. We don't make a blanket claim about this because the honest answer varies. Email us and we'll tell you exactly where things stand for your country. You'll receive a receipt for every donation regardless.
Content and copyright
The writing, design, photographs and curriculum materials on this site belong to Somomaber Africa Foundation or to the people who appear in them, unless stated otherwise.
Photographs of teachers, students and communities are published with the consent of the people in them. Please don't reuse those images outside the context of this site. They're someone's face, not stock photography.
You're welcome to quote from the site with attribution and a link. For anything more — reproducing a case study, using our curriculum materials, or commercial use of any kind — write to us. We're generally happy to say yes, and we'd rather be asked.
Accuracy of what's here
We take care to be accurate, particularly about program costs, outcomes and what our work has achieved. Figures describing what an amount funds are based on actual costs and may change as circumstances do.
Nothing on this site is professional advice — educational, technical, financial or legal. If you spot something that's wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.
Links to other sites
We link to third-party sites where it's useful. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link isn't an endorsement of everything on the other end of it.
Availability
We'd like this site to work all the time. Sometimes it won't — hosting fails, plugins break, things go down for maintenance. We'll do what we reasonably can to keep it running but we can't guarantee uninterrupted access, and we're not liable for loss arising from downtime.
To the extent permitted by law, this site is provided as it is. Our liability for any claim connected with your use of the site is limited to the amount you donated, if anything.
Volunteering and partnership enquiries
Submitting a volunteer or partnership enquiry through this site starts a conversation. It doesn't create an agreement, an offer of a role, or any obligation on either side. Any actual arrangement will be set out separately and in writing.
Roles involving contact with children are subject to separate safeguarding checks and policies, which we'll explain if the conversation gets that far.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and any dispute will be dealt with by the Kenyan courts. If you're giving from elsewhere, this doesn't remove consumer protections you have under your own local law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change when we do. If we change something material — how donations are allocated, or the refund window — we'll say so plainly rather than editing quietly.
Questions, or something to correct
If anything here is unclear, or you've spotted something on this site that's wrong, write to us. We answer everything.
