Who we are

Somomaber Africa Foundation operates this website at somomaber.org. We're a nonprofit organization working on digital and AI education in schools across Sub-Saharan Africa. If you have any question about this policy, write to info@somomaber.org and a person will answer you.

What we collect

When you contact us

• Your name and email address, so we can reply to you
• Your organization, if you choose to tell us
• The message you write, and the enquiry type you select

When you subscribe to updates

• Your email address. That's all we ask for

When you donate

• Your name, email address, and donation amount, which we need for your receipt and to acknowledge your gift
• Payment details go directly to Donorbox and their payment partners, and are never transmitted to or stored by us. We do not see your card number at any point

When you browse the site

• Analytics data — pages visited, roughly where in the world you are, what device you used, and how you arrived. This is aggregated and we cannot identify you from it
• Cookies set by our analytics and donation tools, described below

Why we collect it

For four reasons, and no others: to reply to you when you write, to send you the updates you asked for, to process and receipt your donation, and to understand which parts of this site are working so we can improve them.

Who else sees it

Only the services that make the foundation function. Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what they do with data:

• Donorbox — powers the donation form on our donate page, and processes and receipts your gift with their payment partners. They hold the payment information we never see
• Formspree — delivers contact form and newsletter submissions to our inbox
• Google Analytics — aggregated site usage statistics
• Our website host and email provider — the infrastructure this site and our inbox run on

We do not sell your data. We do not rent it, trade it, or pass it to other organizations for their own use. If we are ever legally compelled to disclose information, we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses two kinds:

• Necessary cookies, which make basic site functions work. These can't be switched off without breaking the site
• Analytics cookies, which tell us how many people visited and which pages they read. You can decline these, and the site will work exactly the same

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so may prevent the donation form from working correctly.

How long we keep it

• Contact messages — kept while we're in conversation with you, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you write again
• Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe, which you can do from the bottom of any email we send
• Donation records — kept as long as required for financial reporting and audit obligations, which varies by jurisdiction
• Analytics data — retained according to our analytics provider's default settings

Your rights

Whatever jurisdiction you're in, we'll honor these:

• Ask what we hold about you, and we'll tell you
• Ask us to correct it if it's wrong
• Ask us to delete it, and we will, except where we're legally required to keep donation records
• Unsubscribe from anything at any time, with no follow-up asking you to reconsider
• Object to how we're using it, and we'll stop unless there's a legal reason we can't

Email info@somomaber.org and we'll action it. We aim to respond within two working days and to complete requests within thirty days.

Keeping it safe

This site runs over an encrypted connection. Payment processing is handled entirely by Donorbox and their payment partners, who are responsible for the security of payment data. Access to our inbox and donor records is limited to people who need it.

We won't claim a system is unbreachable, because no one can. What we will commit to is telling you promptly and honestly if something goes wrong that affects your data.

Children

This website is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16 through this site. Our programs involve children in schools, but that work is governed by separate safeguarding policies and consent processes, not by this website policy.

Changes to this policy

If we change it, we'll update the date at the top. If we change something significant — a new category of data, a new organization receiving it — we'll say so plainly rather than quietly editing a clause.
